MTV Preview
It's the hippest crib on the dial, and joining "The Osbournes," "The Real World," and "Cribs" on MTV this fall, is some new reality stars from Justin Timberlake to P. Diddy.
MTV entertainment president, Brian Graden gave "Extra" a reality check on his network's newest tunes. He says, "We have a second season of ‘Making the Band’ and this time we're sort of going in search of a hip-hop fusion act. And as we announced, P. Diddy is going to be the center of that show."
MTV has another show launching, called "Launch." That show follows the making of an album, from recording to release. MTV is already in sync with a big star: Justin Timberlake launches the first episode.
And from the network that first brought fans face-to-face with stars on "Fanatic," now they're taking it a step further with "Treatment." Graden explains, "For the first time we're going to pick some viewer at random, and allow them to direct the next Korn video, and direct videos by their favorite artist."
But Graden says not to worry; last season's favorites are also back this fall. He says, "Well, ‘Real World’ is going to Las Vegas, which I think will be very exciting. It definitely lives up to its name, Sin City."
And it's another Ozzfest this fall, with the addition of Sharon’s mother, but Graden says the irreverent romp may be scaled back in the wake of Sharon's recent colon cancer diagnosis. He says, "We are taking our lead from Sharon and the family. If they want us in, we'll be in. If they don't, fine."
But don't look for a superstar spin-off. Graden says, "Usually magic sort of lightning strikes once, and I think it's best to leave that alone and move on and try something different."
