Matt LeBlanc
Get ready to go from "Friends" to "Friend." NBC has just made it official: after the legendary sitcom goes off the air next year, Joey will get his own spin-off show.
"Extra" has learned that the storyline will have Joey moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.
Last year, Matt LeBlanc sat down with our "Extra" and even then seemed open to a spin-off. He said, "Sure, there could be six spin-offs ... I'd consider that."
The announcement is generating excitement in Hollywood. "Extra" spoke to soap star Allison Sweeney, who guest starred on "Friends." She says, "He has the looks down, the attitude. I think the spin-off would be a huge hit."
"Extra" caught up with NBC entertainment president Jeff Zucker who is very excited about another bold move being made by the network. He says, "It's probably the breakout hit of the summer on any network anywhere."
Zucker is talking about "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy," which makes its NBC debut Thursday after "Will & Grace." The show, about five gay men giving a straight man a makeover, has gotten huge ratings on Bravo and is now ready for primetime.
Zucker is a big fan of the show and wouldn't even rule out letting himself get a makeover.
He says, "If the fab five would pay me a visit, I would take their advice. I could use their help."
But he didn't need any advice about bringing Joey back and he told "Extra" that Matt couldn’t wait. Zucker says, "I talked to matt last night. He's just thrilled and over the moon that his character's going to continue."
He's thrilled and so are millions of "Friends" fans.
