Which Summer TV Shows Are Making the Grade?
Reality TV has proven it's here to stay. At least that's the conclusion of our "Extra" Summer TV Report Card, which we compiled with the expert help of Media Week magazine's Marc Berman.
"It's reality, all summer. It's just
going through the roof, right now," Berman told us. "'Big
Brother' is having its best ratings, as is ‘Amazing
Race.'"
Berman revealed that one summer success story so far is none
other than "The Simple Life 2: Road Trip"
with Paris and Nicole. "It's so idiotic, it's fun to watch,"
he insisted. "The less clothes they have, the higher the
ratings."
Another reality winner is the new show, "Amish
in the City," which chronicles the adventures
of five young men and women who leave their devoutly religious
rural communities for life in the big city.
"I think it's going to do very well," Berman predicted.
"I think viewers are going to be curious. I think they're
going to watch it."
Then there's that other newcomer, "Trading Spouses,"
which is making even more noise as it puts two very different
women in charge of each other's homes and families. "It's
turning into the big hit of the summer," Berman told us.
Apart from reality series, Berman said the other shows doing
the best this summer are old drama favorites: "It is really
the shows like ‘CSI,' ‘Without a Trace' and
‘Law and Order' that continue to get the audience."
And Berman says the summer TV season is a good barometer of
what to expect come this fall: "Reality and forensic dramas
will be the trends next season." |
