The Dark Side of Suburbia
One's got the hots for the local plumber -- and another's having an affair with a teenage gardener. Welcome to another day in the suburbia of "Desperate Housewives," a daring new prime-time adult soap that's already being tagged as one of the potential big hits of the new fall TV season.
Star Terri Hatcher told us it's exciting to be a part of something so different, telling us, "It's flattering and terrifying at the exact same time."
In the edgy ABC series, Terri joins Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria as four housewives who deal with love, marriage, sex, infidelity, and motherhood in the suburbs.
The show has its dark side. One of the wives' friends can't cope with suburban life and commits suicide, while Nicolette Sheridan -- no stranger to the suburbs after her stay at "Knots Landing," plays a sexy neighborhood man-eater.
James Denton, who starred in the ABC series "Threat Matrix,"
told us what it's like being the only single guy in the regular
cast. "It's great," he admitted. "I don't mind
a bit letting them have all the pressure. I'll just show up
once a week."
Which is exactly what ABC hopes viewers will do when "Desperate Housewives" makes its debut in the new fall lineup.
