Will Ben be a Running Man?

Ben Affleck is getting ready to take center stage in Beantown for the Democratic National Convention next week, throwing all of his support behind the Kerry-Edwards ticket. Affleck told us he's looking forward to showing the Democrats a good time in his hometown.

"It should be a lot of fun," said Ben. "It should be interesting; I've never been to a convention before."

Affleck is already set to attend Sunday's Red Sox game, and People magazine's Liz McNeil said that's just the beginning. "He'll be speaking with young voters, he'll be on a panel, and it will all culminate on Tuesday when he addresses National Convention," McNeil told us.

The superstar's been keeping a high political profile, lately, with appearances at a Kerry fundraiser in Los Angeles, and he's even appeared in a public service announcement for Comedy Central promoting voter registration. So is Affleck laying the groundwork for his own political career? Ben's staying quiet on the issue, but his friend Matt Damon claims Affleck would be a great candidate.

"He'd be good," Matt insisted to us. "I've known him my whole life. He's smart and he's honest."

See more of Ben in Boston on Friday's edition of "Extra," as well as all throughout next week.
