Rubenstein with a sneak peek at the fashion guru's column,
"The Look," and an insider's view of the fashions
making this August hot in Hollywood.
Rubenstein told us that skirts with a dramatic flare are making a big fashion statement. "Embrace the big print beast because these skirts are so much fun," he said. "It's a combination of sort of ethnic and party clothes and a little bit of gypsy."
Cameron Diaz wears one of these flouncy skirts in sexy
satin and Molly Sims looks marvelous in a vintage black
and white one. But if you choose to flirt with the skirt,
remember, if you go graphic -- wear a simple top.
Hal also encouraged us to embrace yellow, but to proceed
with caution. "Yellow is a tough color because it's
not an easy color to wear. It's so reflective, it tends
to play a lot on people's skin tones," he advised.
The summer color looks great on Jessica Simpson, who wore a yellow lace jacket. And Aisha Tyler glows in Hugo Boss.
But the best dress for August goes to a purple cocktail dress with a twist, created by Alber Elbaz for the house of Lanvin.
"To gather all that fabric in the center and not
make a dress look front-heavy or bulky shows great skill,"
Rubenstein insisted. "And it always helps to have
it on a body like Charlize [Theron]."
