Matters of National Security
Hollywood is about to invade the East Coast.
The stars are heading in droves to Boston next week for the
Democratic National Convention. As Beantown plays host to
Ben Affleck, U2, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, and Alec
and Billy Baldwin -- not to mention the presidential candidates
-- the big concern is security.
Robin Bronk, Executive Director of The Creative
Coalition, the group that's sending many stars -- like Minnie
Driver, Joey Pants and Jason Bateman -- to the Boston convention,
says stars want to be a part of it all. And for that reason,
she maintains, "security firms are going to make a lot
of money next week."
In New York, P. Diddy told us security won't keep him from the convention. "I will be there learning and listening with an open mind," he said. "God has truly blessed me, so I have no fears whatsoever."
The convention will be held at the Fleet Center, on the water, so police boats are patrolling the shores, robots and federal agents are on land, and highways and subways near the center will be shut down.
Garrison Courtney, from the Department of Homeland Security
says all of this security proves, "Boston is ready."
"Hardball's" Chris Matthews will be broadcasting from Boston next week, and while he says he feels safe, he tells us anything could happen. "The Republican convention is almost a sting operation it's so appetizing, because it's at Ground Zero, it's New York, and the terrorists are obsessed with New York."
But despite the risks, it looks like nothing will stop stars and politicians from descending on Boston to make a little bit of history.
