The 'Sex' Gals All Get Noms
Thursday morning brought great news for countless TV veterans and a few newcomers as well, as the Emmy nominations were announced. And once again, HBO piled up the most nominations -- 124 of them, to be exact.
Nomination host Edie Falco was rewarded with her fifth nod for Best Actress, although it was not without drama. Her name was left off the list for rehearsal, so "The Sopranos" star would be surprised when she found out.
Fellow HBO stars Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon also received good news Thursday morning. "It was a very nice call to get," Nixon told us. But Davis admitted, "On the way over here, I got pulled over by a cop for having my windows too dark. I got really sad and it kind of rained on my parade."
But Davis did share some good new-show news, which is bound to cheer her up: "I'm in a development deal and I'm meeting writers. I hope it will be on Sunday night and it will be a half hour."
And with all of the ladies nominated, it's clear to the Emmy voters that while "Sex and the City" may be gone, they haven't been forgotten. "We were afraid we'd be forgotten, but we've not been," Nixon said.
"Everybody Loves Raymond's" Doris Roberts is just one of the stars who will go up against the "Sex and the City" stars. "It feels fabulous, it always feels fabulous," Roberts insisted. "This is what happens when you get older."
Doris' co-star, Peter Boyle, received a nomination in the Best Comedy Supporting-Actor category. And he admitted to us his surprise when receiving the news: "I heard this voice saying, ‘Wake-up, wake-up, you've been nominated.'"
"Arrested Development" received a surprise nomination in the Best Comedy category. The show will go up against former winners like "Will & Grace" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
And Jeffrey Tambor could not be more shocked by his individual nomination. "The cast is very excited," Tambor admitted. "It was just a guest role, and then they offered it to me later. So it's a good thing I answered my phone."
"Golden Girl" Betty White and Sharon Stone both received nominations for their guest roles on "The Practice," and James Spader, who is heading a spin-off show, was nominated for Best Dramatic Actor.
On the reality side, Donald Trump's show, "The Apprentice" received a nomination. Trump will go up against "American Idol" and another Mark Burnett show, "Survivor."
"It feels great," Trump told us, adding, "It's a double congratulation for Mark. I just hope ‘The Apprentice' wins, that's all."
"I just don't think it would be right for you to win an Emmy, Mr. Trump, for firing people," Ryan Seacrest insisted. "You're not helping. We're giving back to the community, and you're not."
You can celebrate your favorite shows and favorite actors when the 56th Annual Emmy Awards airs on September 19th on ABC.
