The Dynamic Duo
They are the political power players teaming
up to take over the White House. Letterman and Leno may joke
about them, but John Kerry and John Edwards certainly looks
cozy on the covers of Newsweek and Time.
Kerry and Edwards begin their campaign blitz
together this week, and "Extra" has discovered that
this may be the wealthiest ticket in U.S. history. Smart Money
magazine's Jack Otter says Kerry and Edwards are both millionaires
many times over. "Kerry is wealthy, but it pales in comparison
to the Heinz fortune," he said.
Kerry is from a blue blood Massachusetts family. The wealthy
senator once dated actresses Morgan Fairchild, Catherine Oxenberg
and Michelle Phillips. But his personal fortune ballooned when
he married ketchup heiress Theresa Heinz. "She really brought
the big bucks into the marriage," Otter told us.
The Heinz family fortune is reportedly worth more than $500
million.
But Otter considers Edwards a rags-to-riches success : "He's
a mill worker's son and he was a self-made man who was an attorney."
"Extra" also learned that Edwards, who was in People
magazine's Sexiest Men Alive 2000 issue, was an attorney who
started defending record companies accused of ripping off Elvis
Presley records. He then went on to win more than $150 million
in verdicts for plaintiffs in personal injury lawsuits.
"His personal fortune is pegged at somewhere between $14
and $44 million," Otter revealed.
Together, Kerry and Edwards have the kind of cash that could
make them the wealthiest leaders to ever land in the White House.
