Kerry in the Big Apple
John Kerry and John Edwards received a major vote of confidence Thursday night by some huge stars. The all-star gala included famous faces such as Paul Newman, Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jon Bon Jovi, Whoopi Goldberg, Chevy Chase, Mary J. Blige and Jessica Lange.
"I'll give them everything I possibly can, short of selling my children," Lange pledged.
Thursday night's fundraising concert at Radio City Music Hall, which raised $7.5 million for the campaign, only added to the list of the duo's famous supporters, who already include Barbra Streisand and Ben Affleck.
The contenders for the White House were welcomed by rocker Dave Matthews Thursday, who said, "It is an extreme honor for me to introduce the next president and vice president of the United States."
And of course, Kerry in turn thanked his star supporters. "They're here to join us in making this a better country," he said.
The Kerry-Edwards star-powered road show also included a mud-slinging moment on CNN's "Larry King Live," where King asked Kerry if he'd seen the controversial flick, "Fahrenheit 9/11."
"No, I haven't," Kerry responded. But does he plan to? "No, I don't. I've been watching it for the last four years."
The appearance of Kerry and his billionairess wife, Teresa Heinz, was another media coup for a glamorous democratic ticket that's already drawing comparisons to the Clintons and the Kennedys.
The Kerry-Edwards road show isn't likely to slow down anytime soon, as it charges towards a November showdown with the Bush White House. You can catch Kerry and Edwards' first TV interview together on "60 Minutes." And for more on the all-star gala, check out Friday's edition of "Extra."
