'Anchorman' Premiere
Despite what you may expect from his hysterical on-screen roles, a soft-spoken Will Ferrell arrived as himself Wednesday night at the New York premiere of "Anchorman." He posed for photos with his co-star, Christina Applegate, and even explained the serious inspiration for his new comedy.
"I got a crazy idea watching a news documentary about sexism in news in the 70's," he revealed.
But it wasn't long before Will's sexy alter-ego, Anchorman Ron Burgundy, broke free, in an attempt to charm the 16-year-old daughter of NBC news anchor, Brian Williams.
Think "Austin Powers" meets Geraldo Rivera, and you've got an idea of what groovy newsman Ron Burgundy is all about. "I have agreed to a steel-cage match with Ted Koppel," Ferrell revealed in his Burgundy best. "We're going to wrestle shirtless. The one rule is no touching the hair."
Meanwhile, the lovely Christina Applegate caught up with her pal, Gwyneth Paltrow, and admired her sexy new cover shot for Movieline's "Hollywood Life." "Look at that, the cheeky mama," Applegate enthused. "Nice airbrushing, at least they gave me green eyes because usually on the covers they give me blue eyes and it really bothers me."
But TV Guide's first nude coverboy, Ron Burgundy, was determined to make this night all about him. "I would tell Brian Williams to watch his back because Ron Burgundy is gunning for him."
So is there a little Ron Burgundy in Brian Williams? "God, I hope not," Williams admitted. "I mean if you polled all the employees at NBC News in New York, I hope no one would find any similarities between what we're going to see tonight and yours truly."
See what all the talk is about when "Anchorman" opens Friday. And for more on the big New York premiere, watch Thursday's edition of "Extra."
