Jodie Foster
In "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys," Jodie Foster plays a strict nun focused on saving the souls of her rebellious students. She explains, "I’m really drawn to making movies about kids and about adolescence, because it was a really profound time for me."
Foster produced the film, which is being released as a firestorm of controversy engulfs the Catholic Church. Despite the suggestive title, Jodie wants to make one thing clear, saying, "Anybody who is going to bother seeing it, is going to know it's not about pedophilia."
The story of teen angst was so important to Foster that she agreed to play Sister Assumpta. She says, "I said we have to find an actor a name actor who will agree not to be paid for the movie just so we can get the film off the ground. And I thought, ‘What about me? Why don't I just play it?’"
Set in 1970s Georgia, the movie mixes live action with comic book style animation.
Newcomer Emile Hirsch, Jena Malone, and Kieran Culkin, Macaulay's little brother, admit working with Foster was a big draw. Kieran says, "It was, ‘Okay, this can't be bad if she's doing it.’"
