Take That To the Bank
For the longest time, pulling in the millions was something only male stars did, but now making mega-bucks isn't just a boys club. Meet Hollywood's million dollar ladies.
Julia Roberts was Hollywood's
first $20 million woman. And even now, as the Oscar winner takes
home $25 million a film, she's still uncomfortable talking about
her soaring salary.
"Breaking down a barrier for salaries for women wasn't something that even occurred to me," Roberts admitted. "I remember once being on a movie set where some of the boys in the movie asked me how much I weighed and how much I was getting paid. Then they found out how much I was worth pound for pound, which I thought really put it in a good perspective."
And Julia's not the only leading lady cashing in. Entertainment
Weekly's Ari Karpel told us that Cameron Diaz
made $20 million for "Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle."
And Karpel revealed that franchises like "Bridgette Jones's
Diary" and "Legally Blonde" have put their stars
in the $15 million club: "Reese Witherspoon,
Renée Zellweger and Cameron Diaz are all in
franchise movies that have sequels that guarantee significant
box office year after year."
Nicole Kidman also banked $15 million for starring
in "The Stepford Wives." And although Kidman hasn't
earned as much as Roberts or Diaz, there is no denying her star
power. "She's the most in-demand and therefore the most
powerful," Karpel noted.
Halle Berry, Drew Barrymore,
Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie
also claim more than $10 million a picture, but the undisputed
queen of the media mavens is Oprah Winfrey.
Her bank is full with more than $1 billion.
It looks like these talented women are finally getting what they deserve, and their bank accounts prove it.
