Luther Vandross

Aretha Franklin and other stars are praying with all their heart and soul for legendary singer Luther Vandross. “Extra” has the story.

It was a night of love for Luther Vandross at the Little Rock Baptist Church in Detroit. Aretha Franklin lent her voice and spirit with a prayer vigil for the legendary singer, something she says is crucial to Luther’s recovery from a stroke last March.

She said, "I understood and realized that it was very serious, and more than just a stroke and I felt that right away he really needed prayer, a lot of prayer."

Back in Los Angeles, the well wishes continued as Patti LaBelle broke news to "Extra" about Luther’s condition. She said, "I speak with Luther’s mother every day. She says that he's very much awake, and he follows you with his eyes."

And with Patti’s encouraging news came encouraging words from celebrity supporters, including KISS, Michelle Branch, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

And Aretha Franklin had a special message to offer: "Hang in there. Everything, God willing, will be ok."
