'Cupid'
Thousands of "American Idol" wannabes met their match in Simon Cowell. Now, Simon is doing a little matchmaking. The summer loving is part of Cowell’s romance reality romp, "Cupid."
Simon says, "Why don't we do to the
dating format as we did with ‘American Idol,’ where we show
the audition sequence, and then at the end, let the public
determine who is going to win… cause it's never been done
before."
Thousands of potential Mr. Rights will try to impress "Cupid"
girl Lisa Shannon, but the 25-year-old Michigan native says
there's a catch: they also have to impress her two best friends.
She says, "It's real life. You've got your two friends,
you're at the bar, a guy comes up to you. He's either a good
guy or a bad guy, and if he's gross or a loser, they're going
to call him out on it."
Once it's down to ten finalists, America votes them off one
at a time until "Cupid's" arrow strikes the lucky
winner. And they’re giving her a million dollar dowry. The
couple that stays together gets paid together. Simon says,
"It's going to make it more real, it's going to make
it more fun, it's going to be more edgy, and it's going to
be very cruel."
And Simon, who will work behind the scenes as executive producer,
believes "Cupid" is a match made in TV heaven.
