'Windtalkers'

They had a language all their own, a code the Japanese could not crack. They were windtalkers, a little known chapter in American history about American Indians who helped to win WWII.

Nicolas Cage says, "The fact that they actually wanted to join and protect the country and become Marines, they need to be recognized they need to be honored for the heroes they are."

Nicolas Cage and Christian Slater star in director John Woo's "Windtalkers," the story of WWII Navajo code makers. Their Native American language was the only code never broken by the Japanese. Newcomer Adam Beach, a full-blooded Indian himself, plays the code talker Cage is assigned to protect at all costs. Beach says, "I'm so proud to be who I am, but to play a Navajo takes it even farther."

Slater worked opposite American Navajo Roger Willie, who had never been in front of a camera in his life. He got the role at an open audition held on a reservation.

The actors spent seven grueling days at boot camp to prepare them to do most of their own stunts on the battlefield and director John Woo declared war on his stars. He brought in hundreds of real Marines as extras, and a bunker full of explosives.

The code word for this film is epic!
