Movie Sequels
When Hollywood finds a formula that works, they keep going, and going, and going. "Extra" has got all the sizzling sequels you can expect for the next few years.
While "Spider-Man" is battling "Star Wars" right now, the next big match up this year will be when "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" opens around the same time as the much anticipated "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers."
Premiere magazine editor Rachel Clark says the return of blockbusters like "Potter" and "Rings" means more pressure on the studios. She says, "These movies really have to live up to those earlier ones."
But, before the magicians have their duel, the sizzling summertime sequels are upon us. "Men In Black" includes big bad Will Smith and Halloween moves from October to July with the summer release of "Halloween: Resurrection." "Halloween" star Jamie Lee Curtis is keeping the chills close to the cuff. "There's another ‘Halloween’ movie and I’m in it, that's all I can say," Curtis told "Extra."
And for the shagadelic set, Austin Powers returns this summer in "Austin Powers in Goldmember."
"Matrix" maniacs will have to wait one more year for the second installment of the sci-fi thriller, but you'll get "Matrix" 2 and 3 within the same year, says star Keanu Reeves. "The scripts are really great and hopefully we'll do some things people will enjoy," Reeves told "Extra."
The year 2003 brings the angels back together, as in "Charlie’s Angels." Claire Danes is shooting "Terminator 3" with Arnold Schwarzenegger already, and has the bruises to show for it.
While moviegoers are caught in "Spider-Man's" web now, you'll have to wait until 2004 for the superhero sequel to swing into theatres. And as far as that other "force" to be reckoned with at the box office, mark your calendar for May 2005 for the unveiling of "Episode 3."
And are you ready for Indy’s final battle? Harrison Ford told "Extra" recently he'd be up for "Indiana Jones 4." He says, "If we come with something that's a great story, I couldn't wait to do it, love it."
