Chandra Levy Found

If Chandra Levy was murdered, then who's the killer? Extra looks at the frightening theory that Levy's death might be the sick act of a demented mind who's killed before.

The same day the world learned Chandra Levy's remains had been found, her parents were making a taped appearance on "Oprah," pointing an accusatory finger towards Gary Condit. But now, many people close to the investigation believe Chandra Levy may have been the victim of a serial killer.

John Walsh of "America's Most Wanted" told Extra that Chandra "…is the third woman in a two and a half year period to be murdered in the Dupont Circle area." He reported a number of eerie similarities between Levy's death and two other victims. In 1999, the body of Joyce Chiang--also from California--was found in the Potomac River. She was last seen at a Starbucks just four blocks from Levy's apartment. In 1998, Christine Mirzayen's body was found minutes from Levy's home. She too was a California student on an internship in Washington.

Last night, Condit family attorney Mark Geragos appeared on "Larry King Live" and revealed he had been told months ago that Chandra's remains might turn up soon. Said Geragos, "My investigators had suggested-- if this was the work of a serial killer-- that based upon the two other young ladies that were found-- you might find that Chandra may turn up sometime in May."

But there's another theory to explain the Chandra Levy mystery. Some claim it's possible she was the victim of a predator who targeted Rock Creek Park.

In January of 2001, a woman was murdered there...and police are reportedly questioning a man already in prison for attacking two women in the same location.

"Almost anything that happened should have an answer in the forensic lab," retired FBI agent Jeff Trimarco told Extra. He says he's confident that with the bounty of new information, there's finally enough evidence to solve the case soon.

Solved or not, the Chandra Levy mystery has the nation's capital gripped by the fear that she may have been the victim of killer ...who's still on the loose.
