'The Sum of All Fears'
The Brooklyn Bridge shut down, airports on alert, and the Statue of Liberty under high security; with the threat of more terrorist attacks hanging overhead, right now the New York state of mind is high anxiety.
A new movie raises the question, is the big apple ready to face its fears on the big screen?
“The Sum of All Fears,” starring Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman opens next week. It's about a nuclear terrorist attack on the east coast. But is this movie too real for Americans still reeling from September 11th? Morgan Freeman says, “No if we felt that we wouldn't release it.”
Morgan Freeman and Ben Affleck say Americans still have a thirst for entertainment, but the film's also a good reminder to stay on alert. Ben says, “Are we prepared for this? Are we safe at sporting events? I think it's a real question that resonates in people's minds.”
But will the plot resonate at the box office? Time magazine's
Ben Nugent says yes. He says, “If New York is ready for the
Brooklyn Bridge being closed, New York is ready for this movie.”
When we went to New Yorkers on the street, some said they think it might be a little too early for some people. But most think New York is ready to face its fears on film. One man we talked to says, “I don't think it's too soon. It's just escapism.”
