Jamie-Lynn Sigler
The first rule in the mafia is to keep everything inside the family. But Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who plays Meadow on "The Sopranos," is now revealing a painful secret: she once had a serious eating disorder.
Galina Espinoza is a senior editor at People
magazine, which published Sigler's confession in the current
issue. The problem started before Sigler began work on “The
Sopranos.” The actress, then a teenager, started exercising
compulsively and was only taking in 500 calories a day and weighed
a dangerously low 90 pounds.
Sigler got help through therapy and she's now back to a healthy 125 pounds.
Other stars from Courtney Thorne-Smith, Joan Rivers, Billy Bob Thornton, and Christina Ricci have admitted to eating disorders. Tracey Gold's battle with anorexia left her near death. Healthy now, she still struggles with urges to starve herself. “Titanic” star Kate Winslet had eating problems as a teen and says the pressure on girls to be thin is overwhelming.
Sigler hopes her story will help convince young girls to come to a healthy conclusion.
