Phil Rosenthal

Everyone loves “Everybody Loves Raymond,” CBS' number one comedy. But no one loves the show more than than the guy who lives the show: its creator, Phil Rosenthal.

Phil, along with stand-up comic Ray Romano, masterminded the mega-success of everyone's favorite funny family.

Phil quickly turned to writing after acting didn’t work out and before “Raymond,” was attached to some not so memorable TV shows. Then he was a writer on "Baby Talk" which starred a then unknown George Clooney.

While working on the comedy "Coach," Phil caught fresh new funnyman Ray Romano on “Letterman.” They met and hit it off. Ray says, “We kind of came from the same background. He had the Jewish version of my Italian parents."

Even though Phil was building the show around Ray, Phil says, “People were calling and asking if they could audition for the part of Raymond, after they heard it's called, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond.’”

Phil also tells us some other stuff you may not know about the cast. He says, “Doris Roberts is the biggest Bruce Springsteen fan you've ever seen. Ray listens to really bad old '70's music and he sings along and he's horrible. Patty Heaton teaches Sunday school."

Remember that hilarious video that was made during Clinton’s last year in office? That was Phil’s work, too. He says, “There are times when you're standing outside yourself and you can't believe you're with the president, then you're just working."

Phil says, “I wish everybody this in their life, that you get to do what you love, and you get to love who you're doing it with."
