'Star Wars' Premiere

There was a pre-emptive "Star Wars" strike at early celebrity studded premieres in Hollywood, New York and nine other cities. It’s just a preview of the pandemonium to come when "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" is unleashed upon the rest of the world Thursday.

Michael J. Fox, Susan Sarandon, Claire Danes, and “Star Wars” veterans Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones were among a galaxy of luminaries who turned out for the Sunday premieres to benefit children's charities. “Extra” was there for special coast-to-coast coverage of the extraordinary event.

Natalie Portman confessed the premiere to benefit the Children's Aid Society was a welcome break from cramming for college exams. She said, “I get to come here and dress up and be a glamour girl for a few hours."

Meanwhile, Hayden Christensen was the hero of the premiere in his native Toronto to raise money for Child Find. He said, “It’s nice to be able to do it with my family and friends in my home town. It's very special."

Co-star Ewan McGregor was among the famous that turned out for the Fulfillment Fund at the Hollywood premiere. “Episode II” hasn't even opened yet, but Obi-Wan himself have us a sneak peek of what to expect in “Episode III”: a possible fight to the death with Anakin. Ewan said, “We want it to be the biggest, baddest fight scene of the six movies."

But Samuel Jackson was more interested in the “Star Wars” battle with “Spider-Man” at the box office. He said, “They'll see ‘Spider-Man’ like three times and then it's time to go get your ‘Star Wars’ fix."

None of that seemed to concern big-hearted “Star Wars” creator George Lucas who was at the San Francisco premiere to help the California Mentoring Foundation. He said, “We decided it was better to do charity premieres that can really benefit children than throw one big party for the Hollywood types."

It’s the truly noble tradition of “Star wars” gallantry.
