She was a pitchwoman for the Psychic Friends Network. Now Dionne Warwick can see a court date in her future.
Warwick was arrested Sunday at a Miami airport security checkpoint. While searching her carry-on-bag, security personnel allegedly discovered a suspicious item inside a silver lipstick container. Screeners say they found 11 marijuana cigarettes
“Extra” has obtained video of the singer moments after she was detained and released on her own recognizance. Warwick remained quiet, but “Extra” now has insight as to why the singer may have been holding.
Celebrity Justice has learned from a friend of the five-time Grammy winner that the 61 year-old may suffer from the eye-blurring disease glaucoma. Medical marijuana is often prescribed as a pain remedy. But another friend tells “Extra” the drugs were not for Warwick at all. A vocal advocate for AIDS research, Warwick allegedly hoped the marijuana would help ease the pain of AIDS patients back in Los Angeles.
Warwick's famous cousin Whitney Houston had her own security snafu at a Hawaii airport in 2000. Guards found two marijuana bags and three joints in the pop diva's handbag. Charges against Houston were later dropped
The singer was charged with possession of less than five grams of marijuana, but was released on the promise she would appear in court. Ironically, Warwick was in Miami to receive a lifetime achievement award from the American Red Cross.
