'Idol' Insider: Disco Disaster
"American Idol" will have turned into
a three-woman show, Wednesday night, as America votes off
one of the disco divas. During Tuesday night's show,
Simon Cowell's stinging comments brought Hawaiian Jasmine
Trias to tears, when he told her, "Jasmine, you'd better
hope that every home in Hawaii has at least five telephones,
you'll need all the votes you can get."
Ryan Seacrest tried to comfort Jasmine during
the show, but admitted to us that he was caught off guard.
"That's the first time that someone's broken down after the
critique, while we're giving the phone numbers," Seacrest
told us. "I think the intensity of this competition at this
stage just got to her."
Simon wasn't apologizing after the show.
"She will get a lot of sympathy votes," he insisted.
But one thing the judges all agreed on,
Tuesday night, was Diana DeGarmo's comeback. "I
thought that she was so good that she's kind of upset the
balance, because everybody was predicating a Fantasia and
La Toya final," Simon told us. "She comes along
and does incredibly well, particularly with that second song
-- it was the best song of the night."
Judge Randy Jackson insisted that it's
still anyone's game. "I think if the public does
it right, Diana is kind of a dark horse at this point,"
he told us. "It was a strange night."
