How You'll Spend Your Summer Vacation
Summer is almost here, which means (in addition to higher electric bills) it's time for some great movies. The season has forever been the time for huge blockbuster hits, and this year will be no exception -- here are ten of this year's must-see movies:
1) Tobey Maguire returns this summer as Peter
Parker in "Spiderman 2." But this time Sony
has upped the ante to a reported $200 million, which is double
the cost of the first flick. "I like the first one, but
I really do think we topped that," Maguire reveals. The
result is wild scenes and great effects, which you can check
out yourself on July 2nd.
2) Another hot summer sequel includes super spy Matt Damon racing
through the streets and beaches of Europe for "The Bourne
Supremacy," the follow up to "The Bourne Identity."
This edition was shot in Berlin, India and Moscow, and features
a massive chase scene, the first to be attempted in Russia.
"The Bourne Supremacy" hits theatres on July 23rd.
3) Hugh Jackman's "Van Helsing" is expected
to be one of the biggest summer hits. The $148 million shoot
includes Jackman pulling off some incredible stunts. And although
his nude scenes were left on the cutting room floor, he does
get to kiss the girl -- none other than lovely Kate Beckinsale.
"Van Helsing" leads the pack with a release this Friday.
4) Get ready for chills and spine-tingling suspense with "The
Village," the latest film from "Sixth Sense"
director M. Night Shyamalan. This flick has an all-star cast,
including Oscar winner Adrien Brody, who says,"Everything
that happens to the characters along the way is a huge surprise."
5) It took $125 million to create the hurricanes, tornadoes
and tidal waves in Dennis Quaid's eerie new disaster film, "The
Day after Tomorrow," and the star unveiled the billboard
Tuesday night in Hollywood. "It's the mother of all disaster
movies," Quaid insists.
6) It took $200 million and five months to film Brad Pitt's
return to the big screen in the epic love story "Troy."
The sexy star took a three-year hiatus, but is back in full
force. And there's good news, ladies -- Brad sports a skirt
for the entire film. "Troy" comes out on May 14th.
7) Although Nicole Kidman told us, "Yes, we had a nude
scene, and I loved it," when discussing her quirky summer
movie "The Stepford Wives," you won't see
a naked Nicole. The scene was cut, but Kidman and the all-star
ensemble had a ball in the remake of the 70's cult classic;
it hits theatres June 11th.
8)And the fun continues when Will Ferrell plays a wacky over-the-top
newscaster in the ‘70s-based "Anchorman." Will
told us that he actually ad-libbed quite a few of his scenes,
which resulted in a hilarious film you won't want to miss. You
can be first in line on July 9th.
9) Also coming to theatres this summer, after a 3-year hiatus,
is a big reunion between Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie
Murphy, who will finally reunite for "Shrek 2."
Look for big cameos from big stars this time around, including
a cool cat played to perfection by Antonio Banderas. "Shrek
2" comes out May 21st.
10) But possibly the most-anticipated summer flick is pure magic
-- and like any good sequel, it has murder, suspense, escaped
prisoners and not-so-young-anymore wizards. That's right; the
Hogwarts gang is back with "Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban," the third installment of the beloved series
that's already conjured up more than $600 million. This is one
flick you don't want to miss, and it hits theatres June 4th.
So whether you're young or old, like action, romance or comedies,
the summer box office has it all. |
