Planet Hope

It's a family affair as Sharon Stone and her sister Kelly give hope to the homeless. Planet Hope is a charitable organization founded by the Stone sisters in 1993. Sharon says, "It became a summer camp for homeless kids and now it's a summer camp for them and their moms. Everybody gets medical care, and they get to get away."

Planet Hope came to fruition after Kelly survived a debilitating accident and sister Sharon's words of wisdom pulled her through. Kelly says, “I was in dire straits and she said, ‘You really need to reach out and help someone.’"

Also, Planet Hope would like to extend a special thanks to The Wilbur May Foundation and The Iacocca Foundation.

And they did, by giving thousands of children a chance to experience a traditional summer camp in Malibu, California. Kelly says, “People are laughing, the kids are running in the stream, the counselors are hugging and everybody's crying. From the moment I get to the camp until the day I leave, I cry the entire time."

Kelly says that she and her sister inherited their big hearts from their mother Dorothy. She says, “In the toughest of times, she taught us to be giving to other people."

And it's rubbing off! Sharon has recruited her famous friends like Catherine Zeta-Jones, who raised over $20,000 for the organization in one night.

Planet Hope continues to grow, but according to Los Angeles director of family housing, Jeff Farber, they still need help. Funds and supplies desperately needed, like sleeping bags and clothing. He says, “Here's an opportunity to give back to people that at this time in their lives are less fortunate and need a hand."

The Stone sisters continue to prove that a little love and compassion go a long way.
