Ted Danson

It happened when Ted Danson first met James Van Praagh, the famed medium he plays in the spooky new TV mini-series everyone's talking about. Ted says, “Before I even considered doing this part, I’d spent three or four evenings with him."

And one night, Ted says, his dad paid them a surprise visit from the other side. Danson says, “My father had died about six months before I met James."

Now Danson believes his dad was virtually brought back to life by the man who talks to the dead. He says, “I feel I do have a current relationship with my father that is ongoing."

Danson told “Extra” of his supernatural family reunion at a muscular dystrophy gala in Hollywood, where he and the cast of his hit sitcom "Becker" were honored. Van Praagh describes Ted's experience as “a miracle."

Danson says that's why he decided to play Van Praagh in the CBS mini-series "Living With The Dead," which is based on the medium's life story. He says, “It's a very scary, very moving piece."

In the mini-series, a detective played by Ted's real-life wife Mary Steenburgen recruits him to help solve a series of baffling murders. Mary says she spoke to the dead with James Van Praagh in real life too. She says, “Let's just say it was an interesting experience."

Mary prefers to keep the details of her séance private, but Ted speaks passionately of his psychic adventure with Van Praagh. He says, “I think 50, 100, 200 years from now it will be commonsense 101. It will be so mundane."

But for now, “Living With The Dead" will put viewers beliefs to the test.
