'Unfaithful'

He has played an officer and a gentleman, but now Richard Gere is taking on one of his most raw and emotional roles. In "Unfaithful," Gere plays a husband whose wife is having an affair with a younger man.

Richard says, “We have an animal nature. So we're all genetically bent towards mating. So we have to deal with that."

“Extra” asked Gere what he would do if he were faced with a similar situation in his own life. True to his Buddhist faith, Gere says he would try to forgive. “We all do ridiculous, horrible things but the only way we can go towards freedom, to be as big as we want to be, is to forgive."

Diane Lane is reunited with Gere in "Unfaithful," their first movie together since 1984's "The Cotton Club." She also believes a marriage could survive an affair. She says, “I think there are some relationships that can become stronger. Certainly it will be something different than what it was before."

In the movie, Lane is seduced by Oliver Martinez, who is Mira Sorvino's beau. The up and coming heartthrob admits that he was embarrassed by the love scenes. He says, “I'm not very comfortable with these type of things.”

For all the stars, "Unfaithful" touched a raw nerve and they hope it will get millions not only watching, but talking.
