Val Kilmer

He took on Tom Cruise in “Top Gun,” slipped into tights to wrestle with Jim Carrey's Riddler in the blockbuster, "Batman Forever," and even supplied the singing voice as doomed idol Jim Morrison in "The Doors."

Now in his new film, "The Salton Sea" the always-versatile Val Kilmer is taking on yet another challenge. He says, “The mad world of the tweaker, the land of the perpetual night party.”

A tweaker is a drug addict. Val plays Danny Parker, a man who slips into this seedy underworld. Val says, “It's a dangerous world. The world of drugs and gangs.”

But Val says this is also a love story about a man who is tortured by the death of his wife. And even though he's dated a string of Hollywood beauties including Cindy Crawford, Cher, Ellen Barkin, and Daryl Hannah, it's the two children he shares with ex-wife actress Joanne Whalley that mean everything to Val. He says, “I love being with them. I can't say I teach them much, they seem to know everything already.”

One thing we've learned about Val Kilmer is that he's earned the reputation of being one of the most difficult men in Hollywood. But on this set, he says he was on his best behavior. He says, “I really enjoyed going to work every day”

One thing Val doesn't enjoy is the Hollywood lifestyle. He says, “I just enjoy nature and wilderness and there's not much left of that in Los Angeles.”

"The Salton Sea" rolls into theaters on April 26th.
