Looking Ahead With David Schwimmer
David Schwimmer sat down only with "Extra" to fill us in on his plans for the future after the end of "Friends," and it looks like he's already getting started.
It turns out that even after 10 years as one of the world's most-watched TV stars, David's still shy about posing for cameras. As he told us, "'Relax and be yourself' -- as if you'd ever just be standing in front of a camera not talking to anyone! It's very odd."
So what comes after Must-See TV? Schwimmer plans to try some new things -- first starring in an independent comedy film, titled "Duane Hopwood," and then making a move behind the camera.
"I went from doing ‘Friends' to doing an independent movie and I just directed two pilots for NBC," Schwimmer revealed.
In fact, "Extra" was exclusively on the set of David's directing gig, "Never Mind Nirvana," a family dramedy some are calling the next "Everybody Loves Raymond." And David admits he loves the director's chair, even when he's sitting in it until three in the morning.
But even with his new director and executive producer roles, Schwimmer won't leave his first love. "I love acting for many reasons," he admitted. "And it's really embarrassing to talk about it. I don't know why."
Schwimmer wasn't shy, however, about revealing where he wants
to be in 10 years: "Hopefully by then, I'd love to have
started a family. I see Lisa (Kudrow) and Courtney (Cox Arquette)
having started theirs and of course (Matt) Le Blanc."
But one thing that always has David glowing is his old "Friends." "I just went to see 'Joey' film, Le Blanc's show, and it was surreal," Schwimmer admitted. "It's on the same soundstage and it's with the whole crew."
Schwimmer added, "We were really lucky to have such talented and such nice people, it's really unusual."
