'The Rookie'
Dennis Quaid thinks he's hit a homerun in the new Disney film, “The Rookie.”
Quaid plays Jim Morris, a high school baseball coach who discovers his pitching is better and faster than it ever was when he was younger. On a bet with his high school team, he steps up to the plate again and makes it all the way to the big show.
Dennis says, “It's about second chances in life, second chances with your dreams and second chances with the relationships in your life."
The movie is based on a true story and the real Jim Morris says Quaid really "threw" himself into the role. To look convincing, Quaid got some basic training from ex-Dodger pitcher Jim Gott. Morris says, “He did a fantastic job. He took the pitching very seriously."
Also on deck, recent Golden Globe winner Rachel Griffiths of HBO's “Six Feet Under,” “crazy/beautiful's” Jay Hernandez, and eight-year-old scene stealer Angus T. Jones. Dennis says, “I want people to be entertained and just get all wrapped up in the story. That's what it was for me when I read it, a great story.”
A great story and hopefully a real hit!
