Mystery Reporter: Frederique
It is a hockey rivalry that sportscasters would scramble to cover. But we gave the gig to a supermodel. You've seen her crawl the catwalk and pose pretty. Today's Mystery Reporter is the most unlikely sports correspondent.
She's Frederique Vanderwal and she's taking us behind the scenes of one of the biggest hockey competitions around. It's the New York police hockey team vs. the New York fire department team.
First stop, police practice.
Bill Sater, coach of the police team, says, "There's a lot of pressure on both teams to perform, and we worked a whole year to play for this game."
Next stop, FDNY practice. Frederique knocked some sense into these guys. But it was all in good fun. Firefighter John Conrad says, "They're a good team, we're a good team, and I think we are evenly matched, but once that puck drops whoever has more passion that day wins."
Well the puck stops here, Madison Square Garden where the bravest and the finest played this weekend. Mayor Mike Bloomberg was among the 17,000 cheering fans. He says, "I like them both."
It was a close game. The NYPD beat the FDNY 2 to 1. But they're all winners to us.
