Streisand Honored By Human Rights Campaign

Barbra Streisand rarely grants interviews, but this weekend she showed up for a star-studded charity event and talked to "Extra" to show her opposition to the proposed ban on gay marriages.

"I am against anything that would write discrimination into the constitution," Streisand told us. "So the idea of proposing some sort of ban amendment in the constitution is quite horrifying to me."

Streisand’s big night out was to accept the Humanitarian Award at the Human Rights Campaign Gala in Los Angeles. While accepting her award, Streisand said, "This is a special event because the gay community has always been very supportive of me from the very beginning, so it's a way of giving something back."

Streisand's husband, James Brolin, attended the event with his wife, where he said: "I’m honored too, I adore this girl."

Also on hand to honor Barbara were Janet Jackson quite the publicity-shy entertainer herself since the Super Bowl - as well as megastars John Travolta.

As expected, though, Streisand stole the show. "How can anyone legislate who you can love? That is a human right: the right to love and be loved," she declared.

Speaking of love, Streisand and Brolin also had some advice for James' son, Josh, who's about to marry the beautiful Diane Lane: "Cherish each moment together and wrap each other in each other's aura."

We've got more Barbara in our exclusive online video interview.
