A House Divided: Fussin' & Feudin' on 'American Idol'
It's an "American Idol" showdown, only this time, the face-off is between Judge Simon Cowell and Host Ryan Seacrest.
Cowell was unusually savage to the singers Tuesday night, calling one "American Idol" hopeful "ugly" while she sings, and describing another as "a complete mess."
But even more shocking was how Cowell’s usually playful banter with Seacrest turned serious when the host came to the singers' defense. "If you can find 32 great singers instead of two, you’ll be a billionaire instead of a thousandaire," Simon told Ryan.
Only "Extra" talked to Seacrest Wednesday morning at his Los Angeles radio show, where he said shame on Simon: "I get frustrated watching Cowell when I host the show because he gives the singers a bit of false hope, then tells them they’re terrible."
What a difference a year makes. When Seacrest and Cowell visited "Extra" before the "American Idol" season began, they were in perfect harmony. But now it looks like the Simon and Ryan rollercoaster ride has taken a serious dip.
"The truth is you can't make everybody a superstar," Seacrest admitted. "But I believe he could give a little more direction when he gives the kids feedback."
Meanwhile, as the vicious evaluator and the helpful host bicker, the star-hopefuls sing on. Tuesday, top marks were earned by Jasmine, George and Susie. But which of the night's eight will America choose? Only two can move on -- find out who they’ll be, tonight on FOX.
