Stars Talk 'Passion'
It was quite a weekend for Mel Gibson. While he enjoyed a quiet lunch in Malibu, his new film "The Passion of the Christ" raked in a record-breaking $117 million.
"Extra" learned that Gibson was invited to be an Oscar presenter by producer Joe Roth, but passed early on. The Los Angeles Times reported that Gibson was concerned about being booed, but "Extra’s" sources deny that was the reason; instead, Mel was simply too busy opening his blockbuster film.
And the movie was a hot topic at all the hot post-Oscar parties Sunday night. At the Vanity Fair bash, Larry King, Angie Harmon and Matthew Perry all shared some passionate thoughts about Mel’s movie. "It's a very confounding movie to me," King said. "There are some things I liked about it, and things I didn’t like."
Harmon was less conflicted in her opinion: "I think it's wonderful," she told us. "I really, really do."
Perry took a more wait-and-see position: "I'm going to let it all calm down, then I'll go see it."
Meanwhile, over at Elton John's InStyle soiree, Jennifer Love Hewitt told us she's had trouble getting a ticket. "It’s always sold out," Hewitt said. "I can’t get in. Mel, help me out."
And with that kind of passion from fans, chances are that Gibson will be on the red carpet and not in a restaurant next year come Oscar time.
