Joan Collins Marries Again
Joan Collins and Percy Gibson, the much younger man in her life (she's 68, he's 36), surprised reporters last December announcing their engagement. Collins had been married four times before; in the 50's to Maxwell Reed, to actor Anthony Newley in the 60's, Ron Kass in the 70's, and in the 80’s to Swedish pop star Peter Holm. Now, American theatre manager Percy is Joan’s man for the new millennium.
She said she'd never do it again, but now Joan says, "Well I changed my mind. It's a woman's prerogative."
Last weekend at London’s Claridge Hotel, Joan threw the wedding she's always wanted which included celebrity friends Rupert Everett and Roger Moore.
People magazine has the exclusive wedding photos that show the thousands of flowers and the extraordinary cake. Senior editor Cynthia Sanz says, "One of her guests said they'd never seen anything like it but in the movies."
Sanz tells "Extra" this was actually Joan’s first traditional walk down the aisle. So she wanted it to be perfect. Cynthia says, "Joan wore a lilac dress by Nolan Miller, who was her designer on ‘Dynasty.’"
Back in the 80's during the height of that guilty primetime pleasure "Dynasty," Joan Collins married her forth hubby, also younger than her, Swedish singer Peter Holm, at a drive thru wedding chapel in Las Vegas.
They divorced in 1987, with Holm getting just under a million dollars of Collins' fortune because of a pre-nup. According to People magazine, husband number five Percy asked Joan if she wanted him to sign a pre-nup. Cynthia says, "But she said no. She didn't want it to be that kind of marriage. She trusts him. She says she's never met a more honest or upstanding guy."
Meantime, there will be no kids for Joan and Percy any time soon, although they say they may consider adopting. As for the age issue, Cynthia says, "She's certainly happy. She says he's mature for his age, he's the right fit, he's her soul mate."
Joan's sister, author Jackie Collins, was not at the wedding. She was rushing to finish her latest book, but she did throw a party for the happy couple earlier this month.
