Is Randy the Next Simon?
It's the talk around the water cooler across America: last night the second batch of "American Idols" fell flat on their faces. And fans may have found a new villain to root against formerly mild-mannered Randy Jackson.
Today Jackson came to "Extra" to come clean about the Tuesday night massacre and why he’s sounding a lot more like Simon these days, with one verbal assault after another.
"In the group last night there were three people who definitely should have sung a lot better," Jackson tells us. "It is about greatness, it's about finding the next superstar, and it is not about mediocre talent. It angers you sometimes."
"I think the cameras, the TV, their families, the anxiety of the three of us there, it probably gets a little bit hairy," Jackson continued. "The first week's eight were like the best we've ever had. This week's eight were like the worst we've ever had."
Jackson revealed what the kids don't seem to understand: "It's not just like being good in the auditions. It's not just being good in front of us; you have to be great every time. I just think a lot of those kids fell to pieces."
And what about his Simon-like attitude this season? "I guess what is happening now is we've set the benchmark. Did you watch Kelly? Have you heard her record? Have you heard Ruben or Clay?"
But Jackson assured us that he wouldn’t become like Simon. "I'll never be like him. I'm better."
