Britney Gets Marriage Annulled
It is the wedding that will go down as one of the weirdest celebrity weddings in Las Vegas history. It began at 11 p.m. on December 31st. After a 10-hour flight from the Caribbean, where Spears spent Christmas, Spears and her friends hit the Las Vegas strip.
Among the group, was 22-year-old Jason Alexander, Spears’s high school friend from Kentwood, La. Onlookers spotted Spears and the crew partying at the Palms Hotel's hip Ghost Bar.
Insiders say that Spears hopped into one of the Palms' stretch limos, taking a hotel employee along, and headed for The Little White Wedding Chapel. However, the couple discovered before getting married, they needed a marriage license.
Spears and Alexander arrived at the Clark County Courthouse where at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, Deputy Clerk Linda Wells granted Spears and Alexander the official papers.
Wells says, "She didn’t really show a lot of emotion, and neither did he."
At the chapel, the couple tied the knot. Spears wore a baseball cap and walked down the aisle with the Palms Hotel staff member. Palms Hotel Owner George Maloof confirmed the marriage.
But by 6 p.m., just 12 hours later, the marriage became perhaps the shortest in Hollywood history. Spears and Alexander signed annulment papers, obtained by "Extra."
In the papers, Spears states that she, "lacked understanding of her actions," and that she and Alexander did not know each other’s likes and dislikes.
