'American Idol'

He slammed the guys, dissed the girls, and brought hundreds of hopefuls to tears. Now, our man Simon comes clean on the episode that could be called "the crying game" as 202 emotional wannabes got the axe and watched their dreams go down in flames.

Simon says, "We're not drowning puppies. We're just telling bad singers that you’re really bad singers."

Some of them seemed to deserve it, like smart aleck Stephan. Instead of practicing, he led a boy band of partiers to ride the bull and down the drinks at a club in Los Angeles. Somehow, Stephan's party animal pal Corey made it to the finals, joining 30 other potential stars like Frenchie, whose colorful style and big voice wowed the judges with "Band of Gold."

There is a lot of talent this time around, but who does Simon have his eye on? He says, "I would be surprised if some of the overweight people don't make the top ten."

But Simon says a wallflower won't be the winner. He says, "If I criticize them, I expect them to criticize me."
