Sela Ward
From her breakout role as Teddy on "Sisters" to her award winning performance on "Once and Again," Sela Ward may be one of Hollywood’s shiniest stars. But on the inside, she's just a down home girl from Dixie.
Ward says, "For me coming home is a place to recharge my engines and bring me back down to earth and feel connected to the world."
"Extra" spent the day with Sela in her hometown of Meridian, Mississippi. It's the place she writes about in her new book, Homesick. She says, "This community that I grew up in gave me a lot and it's very important for me to give back to the community that gave me so much. And the way that I can, while I have these 15 minutes of celebrity, is to use that to open doors and maybe help make a difference."
And Sela is making a difference. Not only is she helping to restore the town's grand opera house, about a year ago Sela's Hope Village Foundation opened its doors, providing emergency shelter for abused and neglected children. She says, "I love it. It's just so rewarding to see tangibly how people can affect the course of another persons life."
So for this southern belle turned Emmy winning actress, home is definitely where the heart is.
