Kim Delaney Picked Up for DUI
She played a rough and ready cop on “NYPD Blue.” Now, she's a tough talking lawyer on “Philly.” But today, Kim Delaney could use a good attorney herself after being busted for DUI.
Sergeant Mo Angel of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office
says it started with a 911 call from a concerned driver who
reported a black Mercedes driving erratically. The caller then
followed the Mercedes to Delaney’s Malibu home and identified
her for police.
Sergeant Angel says, “She was incoherent and
didn't seem to understand what we were discussing with her …
While we were standing out of the house we get a call from the
alarm company saying someone has just entered the house and
they don't know the code.”
Angel says a disoriented Delaney denied she'd been in the car.
He says, “She stated that she had not been driving and had been
home for three hours.”
The actress was brought to the sheriff's department in west
county Los Angeles. They released her just after midnight to
her fiancé Alan Barnette. He drove while Delaney ducked under
a blanket as they left.
The couple have seemed happy together for years and back in
November when “Extra” talked to Kim on the set of “Philly,”
she couldn't have been more content. She said, “It's a good
group of people. Everybody really enjoys what they're doing.”
But Derek Rose of the New York Daily News says police tell him
on Saturday Delaney refused a Breathalyzer test and was slurring
her words. He says, “She would repeat the questions back to
them incoherently, mocking them.”
And Rose also pointed out a certain irony with Delaney’s character
in “NYPD Blue.” He says, “She played Detective Diane Russell,
who had a problem with alcohol. Hopefully that hasn't rubbed
off on her.”
