Eye
TV
In its simplest form, EyeTV allows you to watch TV right on
your Mac. The installation is simple and the picture quality
is great at the standard 320x240 size. EyeTV allows you to
pause and rewind live television, much like TiVo. Being able
to watch TV right on your computer is a great convenience,
but this is not the only place EyeTV shines.
EyeTV allows you to record shows right onto your computer
and later burn them to a CD. You can set EyeTV to record shows
much like you would with your VCR or TiVo. You can also plug
in any external video and record that too. Have an old home
movie still on VHS? No problem. Plug your VCR into the EyeTV
box and copy that movie right onto your computer. It’s a great
way to preserve your video collection.
Recording video does take up space. An hour-long show, recorded
at the standard level, will take up about 650 MB. If you’re
like me, you’ll use the high quality setting so that everything
looks its best. You’ll find yourself using up hard drive space
pretty quickly this way, but have no fear. With a few simple
clicks (and a CD burner, if you have one) you can easily save
your favorite shows right onto a CD.
If you’re the kind of person that loves TV, and loves to preserve
your favorite shows, you’re going to really love EyeTV. But
even using it just to simply watch TV, EyeTV makes for an
easy way to turn your computer into an additional television
in your home or office.
