Airport Spas

Jet lag, stifling airplane air, cancellations that make you cranks, and those dreaded delays … all part of the frustration of flying. But hold on, relax, drop everything, take a breath, because passenger pampering is taking off.

Sharon Stone, Gwynneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd, Charlize Theron, all first rate actresses who enjoy first class treatment at airport spas. From massage therapy, hydrotherapy, aeromatherapy, and seaweed scrubs to manicures and pedicures. These hip new spas are rejuvenating stressed out passengers in terminals all over the world.
Vancouver International, Chicago's O'Hare, and Sea-Tac in Seattle are among a handful of airports with full-service spas. In Calgary, Canada, former flight attendant Suzanne Letourneau opened O2raOxygen, the world’s first oxygen spa, where weary travelers can buy a boost of clean air.
She says, “They just breathe the oxygen for 15 minutes. Close their eyes and relax.”
That clean air doesn't come cheap, costing a dollar a minute. But flight attendant Jason Dufrene says it's worth it. He says, “When I came in here my sinuses were so congested. Now they've really cleared up with the aromatherapy."
So next time flying has you frazzled, instead of rubbing shoulders with stressed-out strangers, get rubbed by an expert or just inhale when that airport air gets stale.
